How did I stay mostly healthy over these crazy years?

By doing my best to follow these basic gut-healthy steps (start with just one):

  1. Eat lots of leafy greens and a rainbow of vegetables (including sea vegetables) - aiming for 50% or more of my diet

  2. Eat fermented vegetables - a couple of forkfuls or a gulp of brine at each meal, (start with a forkful or two per day)

  3. Remove foods that are upsetting/inflammatory to my body (in my case, gluten, dairy and corn were the biggies)

  4. Avoid processed junk foods and sugar

  5. Focus on plenty of healthy fats and enough clean protein

  6. Consume bone broth regularly (it's inexpensive to roast a chicken and make your own with veggie scraps)

  7. Engage in healthful stress-relieving activities (exercise, meditation, yoga, seeing friends, walking outside... get a buddy for accountability - my life got so much better when I found an early morning jogging/walking buddy!)
